General Information About CP

United Cerebral Palsy has a site that is filled with useful information about CP. They explain the different types of Cerebral Palsy. They can help you to find assistance if you need it. I say this site is the main place to learn what CP is all about. 

Cerebral Palsy is a neurological disorder marking muscle coordination. In most cases, cerebral palsy is caused by brain damage that develops while the baby is still in utero or during or shortly after birth. Comprehensive information about cerebral palsy and most common types can be found at Cerebral Palsy Guidance.

Cerebral Palsy Group is a robust site that provides “high quality, medically-reviewed data” on everything related to CP, as well as financial and legal help, treatment and therapy resources. There is a number to speak with a case worker as well.

 

For Treatment & Therapy

Easter Seals is a place to receive therapy. They are nationwide, and they handle many types of disabilities, but Cerebral Palsy is the most common disability they treat.

DuPage Easter Seals is in Chicago, Illinois. They treat kids with CP and other disabilities. I went there for many years. 

Inspiration & Advice from Community Members and Parents of People with Disability

Tamera Weeks has an adult daughter with CP. They have a YouTube channel showing the day to day struggles with CP.

Charisse has CP and also has a YouTube Channel. She shows people what a person with CP can do. Her videos are really fun to watch.

Wonder Moms is a site created by 3 moms. They all have special needs children. Their site is filled with useful posts for parents.

Barton and Megan Cutter are a married couple. Barton has CP and they have a consulting business. They do talks around the country. One thing that I really like about them is their love for each other.

Accommodations & Assisted Living

About Assisted Living is a wonderful site to learn how to take care of a child with a disability as well as elders.

Illinois Independent Living Center aka Katharine Manor is a building that was designed for people with disabilities to live on their own. I am currently on the board.

Nationwide Lifts is a company that modifies houses for people with disabilities. They have stairs lifts, elevators and many other things to help people with disability.

 

Finding Aides

If you are in Illinois and want to hire your own PCA, this Health Care Worker Database from Illinois Department of Public Health is simply a must. It allows you to find out if the PCA is in good standing with the state. You can also report criminal actions against a PCA.

Caring is a website that helps seniors find aides. This page is for Illinois, but they are in other states as well.

If you have a child whom you believe suffered an injury from medical error during birth, have a look at the Birth Injury Justice Center site.

This law firm specializes in disability claim denials.
